The Mourning Cloak butterfly also known as the Camberwell Beauty in Britain, is a large size butterfly native to both Eurasia and North America. These butterflies have one of the longest lifespans of any butterfly and live from 11 to 12 months. The Mourning Cloak is a powerful flyer and can often be found far from its usual habitat during migration. This beautiful butterfly was named Montana's state butterfly in 2005.
The Mourning Cloak Butterfly is an orginal artwork measuring approximtaley 6 x 6". Each vintage inspired artwork starts among the sketchbook pages, literred with hand writte notes and research that dive into the mytology, meaning, and stories of each of her subjects. From the sketch phase each artwork is transferred onto hot press watercolor paper to begin the stages of her process. Light layers of graphite and watercolor are then layered to create the vintage feeling that is seen. Erica Catherine dreams of her art being cherish for many years, ideally becoming heirlooms passed through generations.
