The Black Swallowtail is found throughout North America and is the state butterfly of of both Oklahoma and New Jersey. The species is named after Polyxena in Greek mythology who was the youngest daughter of the King of Troy. The best way to tell this swallowtail apart from other popular butterflies is by looking for a small orange spot and pathes of pal blue near the tail of the lower wings.
The Black Swallowtail is an original artwork and approximately 7 x 7".Each Vintage Inspired artwork starts among the sketchbook pages, literred with hand writte notes and research that dive into the mytology, meaning, and stories of each of her subjects. From the sketch phase each artwork is transferred onto hot press watercolor paper to begin the stages of her process. Light layers of graphite and watercolor are then layered to create the vintage feeling that is seen. Erica Catherine dreams of her art being cherish for many years, ideally becoming heirlooms passed through generations.
